The Farmers

Jean-Paul Courtens attended a four-year training for Biodynamic Agriculture in Holland from 1982 to 1986. He came to the United States in 1986 and started Roxbury Farm in 1990. In 1991, CSA became a component of the farm. Jean-Paul founded the CRAFT program (Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farming Training) in 1994 to improve apprentice training on farms in the region. Since then many CRAFT groups have developed all over the country and in Canada. In 1999, Jody Bolluyt joined the farm. Jody grew up in rural Iowa working for large-scale corn and soybean growers during summer vacations and spent three summers working on a small flower farm. She graduated from the University of Iowa in 1999 with a degree in biology and botany. The farm moved to a new location in 2000 securing long-term land tenure on 250 acres of land. In 2004, they received the Patrick Madden Award from SARE that is awarded to farmers who farm in ways that are profitable, good for families and communities, and beneficial to the environment and have shown a willingness to share their experience with others.

In Other Fields

Linda Bolluyt is the farm administrator.  She takes care of the farm books and the membership enrollments and payments.  She makes sure we return your phone calls and email when we are busy out in the fields.

Dave Bolluyt updates and maintains the website.  He took over from Kate Farrell and Julian McNamara who created the website for the farm along with John Isaacs and Enid Futterman.  Dave is also our all around handyman, helping us keep the farm in tip top order.  Dave will also deliver the Capital District produce this year.
